2018 BRR Constable Handicap

On Sunday, November 18th the Bridlington Road Runners staged their annual 10K Constable Handicap. This is a Staggered Handicap race, in which the slowest runner sets off first. The race starts and finishes on Bridlington’s North Promenade, taking in cliff top views of Flamborough Head as the runners make their way into the grounds of Sewerby Hall before heading back out onto Church Lane.

From there they head along the Flamborough road and into the historic Danes Dyke. There is a downhill path towards the beach and then a steep climb consisting of steps and trail path to the top of the Dyke. Then it’s back towards the cliff top, skirting the local golf course and cricket club. From there it’s mostly downhill past the Coast Guard Station and back along the North Prom to the finish line.

It was my third running of the race… and my first victory! Running off a 6 minute and 30 second handicap I was the second to start and the first to finish.

Pictures show me in action on the return along the cliff top; receiving the shield from club president, Bob Eyres; and displaying the shield, with the cliffs of Flamborough Head in the background.
