Extraordinary People Awards

On Friday I was honoured by our local shopping centre, The Promenades, being voted Charity Fundraiser of the Year at their 2019 Extraordinary People Awards evening, held at the prestigious Bridlington Spa. (As an interesting aside, I first saw the Rolling Stones perform on the same stage there, circa 1963/64!)

Friday's awards were given in a variety of categories, including Volunteer of the Year, Teacher of the Year, and Business of the Year (won by the gentlemen who own and operate Bridlington's pleasure boat, the Yorkshire Belle, which, coincidentally is the same age as me... we were both commissioned in 1947!

This picture shows the boat on a trip to Bempton Cliffs RSPB Bird Sanctuary

For a brief history of the Yorkshire Belle go to The guys also have a Facebook page where you can get more up-to-date information about sailing times, etc.

Tomorrow, November 25th is a big day in my racing schedule, as I officially start training for my "2020 Spring Marathon-A-Thon". My first race will be the Washington DC Rock 'n' Roll Marathon on March 28th... and it's just 18 weeks away.

As with this year's London Marathon Fundraiser, I will again be raising money in aid of the Macular Society. Macular degeneration is the leading cause of blindness throughout the industrialized world, and, in the UK alone, 300 people are diagnosed with this insidious disease EVERY DAY. There is currently no cure for any form of the disease, and most forms are not even treatable. For the lucky few for whom treatment is indicated, this treatment involves monthly injections into one or both eyes!

My 2020 fundraiser is already open on my JustGiving page, so please, if you have a couple of bucks to spare, or pounds, pesos, euros, baht, whatever, please consider giving a little to help find a cure. Just click HERE to be taken directly to my JustGiving page.

Thank You!
