Running the London Marathon to Raise Money for Macular Degeneration

I've been having a bit of a problem with my eyes this past few months... strange objects like bright cog wheels floating across my field of vision. The wonderful doctors at the Bridlington Hospital Eye Clinic have checked it out and they tell me it's nothing to worry about... just the vitreous moving around at the back of my eye. Still, it's disconcerting when it happens, because I can't read. Luckily, it usually only lasts for 15 or 20 minutes, so it's not much of an inconvenience.

It was brought home to me again how fortunate I am, when I attended my first meeting of the Bridlington Macular Support Group, this week. What a wonderful, cheerful, and generous group of people. And most of them with much more serious sight loss than mine. Even more reason for me to put my efforts into raising funds while I'm able, to help find a cure for Macular Disease and to provide more help and support for those who are not able to get around as well as I am.

To that end, I'm happy to report that this week, thanks to the generosity of those folks at the Support Group, and to a couple of fellow runners, I reached the £400 mark of my appeal... that's more than 15% of my goal. Only another £2,200 or so to go!

I also got a nice little confidence boost while putting in a 10-mile run, this morning, on Bridlington's South Promenade. A nice lady who I see out walking her dogs took a photo of the 'advertising message' on my t-shirt, and promised me a donation. So it's true what they say...
