San Antonio Rock 'n' Roll 5K

Last week I flew to San Antonio, Texas, to visit an old (95 years old!) friend. While I was there, there was a Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Event in full swing and I decided to dip my toes in the 5K. There was a choice of Full and Half Marathons, as well as a 5K and 10K. But I was there visiting, so decided I'd just do the quickie... just to say I'd done a Rock 'n' Roll race, really. Once the sun came up it was a bright and sunny Saturday morning... slightly chilly for the 7:30am start, but almost a heat wave by comparison to my usual Saturday morning 5K at Sewerby parkrun!

It was a flat, point-to-point run and I was hoping that I might beat my 28:27.2 PB, but I fell a bit short. Still, with a time of 31:34 I was almost six minutes ahead of the next person in my VW70 age category, so can't complain at that.

I'd never done a Rock 'n' Roll event before and I can tell you that the organization was first rate. There was an excellent expo pre and post event, with lots of vendors, selling everything from bumper stickers to a car to stick them on! I availed myself of a pair of nifty pink shades!

Thanks for reading, and (I almost hate to have to mention this) let me just add, that there are several links on the Home page to my London Marathon Just Giving appeal page... or just click the link, below. It's pretty much the reason for my doing this stuff. Thank you so much :) !!
